Why this exists

About this kitchen

The cards in the recipe box are getting old, and handwriting fades. This site keeps them the way they were taught, with credit to the people who taught them.

How it works

Joe and Jim are working through the family recipe box, photographing each card and writing it out word for word. Those go up here first.

Then it's everyone's. Fill out the recipe form with the dish, who it came from, and how to make it. Sitting on a whole box? Drop the card photos in the shared folder instead, as many as you like, and they'll be read and added from there. If the family should never lose a recipe, it belongs here.

These recipes are meant to be used: cooked often, spilled on, and handed down.

A note on handwriting

Some of the original cards are hard to read. Where a word or a measurement is uncertain, the recipe says so instead of guessing. If you remember it differently, tell Joe or Jim and they'll fix it, with credit to you.

The family behind the recipes

Who built this

Joe Karle and his dad, Jim, for the whole extended family. In this family, feeding people is how you say you love them.
